Oscar winning director Bernardo Bertolucci's classic 1964 film, "Prima della Rivoluzione," or "Before the Revolution," will be showcased in New York City from June 21st through June 27th at the Lincoln Plaza Cinemas at 1886 Broadway, New York, NY 10023 as part of an ongoing series "8 Decades of Italian Cinema."
Influenced by French New Wave cinema, "Before the Revolution" is the story of a young man named Fabrizio, played by Francesco Barilli, troubled by the ethical demands of communism while in an angry revolt against his family. As he begins an affair with his aunt Gina, he wonders if he is in a pre-revolutionary state or if he is entrenched in the revolution itself.
The film is part of a larger series of screenings at Lincoln Plaza Cinemas, titled "8 Decades of Italian Cinema": a seven-month program brought to New York by the Istituto Luce Cinecittà to celebrate 2013- The Year of Italian Culture in the United States. The program features screenings of over 10 of Italy's greatest films running from April to November with showings of one to two films per month. "8 Decades of Italian Cinema" will give New Yorkers the opportunity to discover a selection of the most beloved Italian movies from the last seventy years. Titles range from those of the classics of Neorealism to the unforgettable glamour of
Federico Fellini, leading up finally to the profound work of Paolo Sorrentino.
