Bernadette Peters has been knockin' 'em dead with triple standing ovations on her recent concert dates. One of those ovations is for a song she wrote, both music and lyrics called "Kramer's Song" which is a bonus in her upcoming book BROADWAY BARKS (with illustrations by Liz Murphy), coming out on April 28th. This weekend, la Peters, who on February 28th celebrated her 60th birthday - which is almost impossible to believe - will be playing Miami's Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts, (formerly the Carnival Center for the Performing Arts).
Posted moments ago at The Miami Herald web site, and the lead story in tomorrow morning's entertainment section of The Miami Herald, Peters was interviewed by Steve Rothaus, where she talks to the press for the first time about the song and more. Peters said "'I never wrote a song in my life,' Peters said. ``I was in an airplane and I needed a lullaby. Suddenly, the music and lyrics came to me.'
Also in the article, Rothaus speaks with the legendary Jerry Herman, who penned the beloved Robert Preston / Bernadette Peters vehicle MACK & MABEL and longtime friend and artistic collaborator, Richard Jay-Alexander. Steve Rothaus is also a fan and friend of BroadwayWorld.com, click here for the full article.
The publisher's description of Broadway Barks notes that "In a park in New York City lives a lonely little dog. He remembers when he used to get taken for walks, fed dinner every night, and told he was a good dog. Now, he's all alone and must fend for himself. But everything changes one day when he sees a lady reading in the park and decides to follow her—all the way to a place where he might become a star!
