Bernadette Peters Husband, Michael Wittenberg Killed in Helicopter Crash

BroadwayWorld.com learned this afternoon that Bernadette Peters' husband of many years, Michael Wittenberg, an investment banker, was killed on Monday, September 26, 2005 in a helicopter crash in Montenegro, an island in the Mediterranean according a spokesperson for Peters. Wittenberg was looking at resport properties for potential purchase at the time of the crash. No funeral plans have been announced at this time.

The career of two-time Tony Award-winner Bernadette Peters, has spanned over 4 decades and includes such shows as Dames at Sea, Mack and Mabel, Song and Dance, Sunday in the Park with George, Into the Woods, Annie Get Your Gun and Gypsy.

Peters, an avid participant in charity work, most recently appeared on Sunday, September 25th in the star-studded Katrina Benefit at the Gershwin Theater. The couple married on July 20, 1996 at the home of friend Mary Tyler Moore.
