Emily Bergl will make her NY musical debut in her cabaret, "Kidding on the Square" beginning August 26.  Ms. Bergl, accompanied by acclaimed musical director G. Scott Lacy, will perform at NY's  Metropolitan Room for four nights.  She is currently starring on ABC's "Desperate Housewives" as a new housewife on Wisteria Lane, and on TNT's "Southland," as Tammi Bryant, the troubled artist and wife to Detective Sammy Bryant.  She most recently appeared on the New York stage in Second Stage's "Becky Shaw," a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize.

"Kidding on the Square," is an evening of old fashioned love songs with a twist, a journey that takes the audience on a roaring 20's ride through love, heartbreak, and everything in between.  The show revolves around classic songs from the 1920's and 30's, but also presents vintage retakes on modern favorites from Lily Allen to Madonna. "My cabaret is from an actor's perspective.  I'm not interested in just singing pretty standards at the piano," explains Ms. Bergl.  "I wanted to develop a complete piece with an arc and different characters, an evening of songs that are stories.  At the end of the day, it's all about entertaining people."

Ms. Bergl is also a passionate volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, and has built houses in Thailand, Borneo, and Mississippi. In October she will build alongside President and Roslyn Carter in Washington DC as part of the Jimmy and Rosalyn Carter Work Project.

Beginning August 26 "Kidding on the Square" will make its NY debut at the Metropolitan Room, after playing to sold out audiences in Chicago, San Diego, Seattle, and Los Angeles.
