The New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF) has announced that Tony Award winner Ben Vereen has been named the honorary chairman of the 2012 festival.

“The theater was my first training ground. It taught me discipline, dedication and appreciation of hard work and values that will stay with me a lifetime,” said Ben Vereen. “The stage sharpens the creative instrument and encourages you to go deeper inside and try new things. It is a true honor to be the honorary chairman of the 2012 New York Musical Theatre Festival as I know first hand that sometimes all talented people need is a chance.”

Mr. Vereen’s concert act “Steppin’ Out With Ben Vereen” will play Broadway’s nightclub, 54 Below from July 10-21st.

Admission to the NYMF opening night celebration is available only to NYMF Members, Patrons and Participants. Festival memberships are on sale now, and combine charitable contributions with valuable, flexible ticket packages. Members and Patrons also enjoy access to exclusive NYMF events, as well as early booking and early seating to Festival productions.

Memberships and single tickets for the 2012 New York Musical Theatre Festival are available at www.nymf.org, the NYMF Hub (330 W. 42nd Street) or by calling (212) 352-3101.
