On January 29th and February 5th, composer Ben Toth will perform at Peter Norton Symphony Space (Leonard Nimoy Thalia) at 7:30pm.
Toth will, according to press notes "debut new songs, setting some of the great modern poetry to music, including poems from his collaboration with Pulitzer-Prize-winning-poet Paul Muldoon. For the first performance, Ben will perform the entire cycle from the piano, and on February 5th, will be joined by acclaimed jazz singer Jane Monheit and concert artist Darius DeHaas."
Toth recently premiered songs from his collaboration with poet/lyricist Paul Muldoon at the opening concert of the MacDowell Colony's centennial celebration; completed composing the score to a movie musical for Ripfest8, and was the composer-in-residence at the Ucross Foundation. As a musical director, he has performed with Jane Monheit, Mandy Patinkin, Billy Porter, Tommy Tune and Michael Winther. He was the musical director for the first workshop of Duncan Sheik's The Nightingale, presented at the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center. Toth studied composition, piano, and voice at the Eastman School of Music and received a BA in American History and Modern Architecture at Brown University.
