Geraldine Hughes, who played over 20 characters in her off-Broadway hit Belfast Blues, has been cast opposite Sylvester Stallone in Rocky Balboa, the sixth and final installment in the Rocky series.

Hughes, who was born and raised in Belfast, has received acclaim for her one-woman show about life in the Irish city during the Anglo-Irish "Troubles." The actress, who is now based in Los Angeles, will play Little Marie in Rocky Balboa. The character, who was introduced in the first film, has now become Rocky's love interest and has a son called Steps. "Marie is down on her luck and Rocky offers her a job in his restaurant. He also offers a guiding role to Marie's young son, who is in need of fatherly advice," according to an article in the Belfast Telegraph.

At 13, Hughes was chosen out of 2,500 girls by American director George Schaefer to star in the 1984 television movie "Children In The Crossfire." Moving to the US, she attended UCLA's School of Theatre, Film and Television. Other film and TV credits include Duplex, "The Guardian" and "ER." Belfast Blues played the 45 Bleecker Theatre from January 20th through April 24th, 2005. Hughes is the winner of a 2003 Los Angeles Ovation Award.

Rocky Balboa follows earlier Rocky films made in 1976, 1979 ,1982, 1985 and 1990; Stallone has both starred in and written all the films in the series about determined boxer of the title.
