Beautiful City Theatre produces CIRCLE MIRROR TRANSFORMATION, the New York Revival and Montreal Premiere of the 2010 Obie Award-winning play, opening January 29, 2015 at Schapiro Studio in New York City (605 W 115th St, New York NY), and in Montreal on February 6, 2015 at Studio 303 (372 rue St-Catherine W. #303, Montreal QC). The show will run on consecutive weekends in both cities, from January 29 - February 1, 2015 in New York, and February 6 - 8, 2015 in Montreal.

CIRCLE MIRROR TRANSFORMATION, written by prolific American contemporary writer Annie Baker (The Flick, The Vermont Plays), was first produced by renowned Off-Broadway theatre company, Playwrights Horizons. One of Baker's 4 plays set in the fictional town of Shirley, VT, CIRCLE MIRROR TRANSFORMATION received the 2010 Obie Award for Best New American Play, Best Ensemble Performance, and Best Direction by Sam Gold. Sam Gold and Annie Baker are known for their collaborations, specifically on Baker's Pulitzer Prize-winning play, The Flick, which also premiered at Playwrights Horizons. CIRCLE MIRROR TRANSFORMATION garnered additional nominations for the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Play and Outstanding Director of a Play, and also won the award for Outstanding Ensemble Performances.

Beautiful City Theatre's production will be the Montreal premiere of CIRCLE MIRROR TRANSFORMATION and is directed by BCT's Artistic Producer, Natalie Gershtein. This is also the first Beautiful City Theatre production to send Canadian artists to New York. Artists from New York and Montreal will collaborate and perform together in both cities.

CIRCLE MIRROR TRANSFORMATION centers around five people, Marty (a drama teacher) and her students: James (Marty's husband), Theresa (a young, talented woman), Schultz (a middle-aged gentleman, lost and looking for answers), and Lauren (a teenage girl impacted by her parents' broken marriage). With Marty's guidance, this group of misfits must find a way to communicate, a way to understand each other, through the lens of theatrical exercises in the drama class. Over the course of six weeks, unexpected intimacies arise and the drama games result in real-life drama, all amounting in a bittersweet exploration of humanity.

BCT's production of CIRCLE MIRROR TRANSFORMATION aims to explore humanity through everyday hardships, celebrations, and experiences, both small and large. For this production, Beautiful City Theatre will focus on the theatrical process itself by analyzing, critiquing, and embracing well-known practices in the theatre community. To draw connections between the play and reality, the rehearsal process will mirror the exercises within the play in a metatheatrical exploration of what theatre artists and teachers aim to discover.

From Montreal, CIRCLE MIRROR TRANSFORMATION stars Montreal's Renée Hodgins as Theresa and BCT alumni, Eleni Metrakos (Godspell) as Lauren. From New York, BCT presents Mary Liz Lewis as Marty, Gene Santarelli as James, and Douglas Rossi as Schultz.
