The summer is in full swing, and with it, a new relationship between Bay Street Theatre and The Parrish Art Museum is bringing an exciting developmental theater space to Southampton. Baystreet@The Parrish Art Museum will feature a 99-seat café-style theater for new plays in development and premieres with Motherhood Out Loud, running for three nights only-July 30, 31, and August 1st.
Motherhood Out Loud is a new American play, co-conceived by Susan R. Rose and Joan Stein, produced by Ms. Rose, Ms. Stein, Renee Landegger and Judith Resnick, and directed by Lisa Peterson. Written by more than 17 award winning writers, Motherhood Out Loud celebrates the very personal, diverse, funny, and altogether extraordinary experiences that boldly expose the unabashed truths that unite us all. From stepmoms to single moms, from new moms to empty nesters, Motherhood Out Loud reveals with insight and humor, the raw emotions and rocky roads we travel in life.
The cast will include Saidah Arrika Ekulona, recognized by television audiences for her appearances on "The Sopranos", "Law & Order", and "Sex & The City", Carson Kressley, accomplished stylist and fashion designer turned author, most widely known for his role on the hit series "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy", Margo Martindale, nominated for a Tony Award as Best Featured Actress for her Broadway debut as Big Mama in the revival of Tennessee Williams' Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and widely recognized for her memorable film roles in Dead Man Walking, Lorenzo's Oil, Marvin's Room, and Million Dollar Baby, and Samantha Mathis, most recently seen on the ABC television show "Lost", but who is perhaps most widely known for her lead role opposite Christian Bale and Reese Witherspoon in American Psycho as well as her role opposite Michael Douglas in The American President.
With an unprecedented collaboration of American writers from theater, television and film, and Tony Award winning producers, Motherhood Out Loud is not to be missed. Motherhood Out Loud will take place at the Parrish, 25 Job's Lane in Southampton. All tickets are $40 and may be purchased through the Bay Street Box Office at 631-725-9500, open daily at 11am.
