Off-Broadway's The Play Company brings together some of NYC's top chefs and theater artists for its seventh annual gala Cabaret Gourmet 2010, a unique evening hosted by Bryan Batt, the beloved Broadway performer and star of the hit television series "Mad Men," with a featured performance by Tony-nominee Barbara Walsh and savory and sweet dishes prepared by chefs from several of the city's most celebrated restaurants on Monday, March 8 at 7 p.m. at the American Airlines Theatre Penthouse in Manhattan.
Cabaret Gourmet 2010 offers theatergoers and gourmet-food aficionados alike the opportunity to mingle in a cabaret setting and taste epicurean dishes prepared by well-known chefs from around the city. Participating chefs include Chef George Mendes of Aldea, Chef David DeCarlo of Angus McIndoe, Chef Jehangir Mehta of Graffiti, Chef Nancy Olson of Gramercy Tavern, Chef Mikey Price of Market Table, Chef Josh Eden of Shorty's 32, Steve Liebowitz, owner of Guss Pickles, and Thiru "Dosa Man" Kumar, NY Dosas (recipient of the 2007 Vendy Award). Coffee is provided by La Colombe Torrefaction.
The Cabaret Gourmet 2010 evening also includes a silent auction offering tickets to Broadway's hottest shows, exclusive dining and spa packages, elite opportunities and much more.
Tony Award-winning actor Alan Cumming ("Cabaret") is the Honorary Chair of this annual fundraiser for The Play Company, one of New York's leading not for profit theater companies, dedicated to producing new plays with an international, contemporary perspective. Michael Dweck is the Gala Chair.
Barbara Walsh, nominated for a Tony Award for her performance in William Finn's musical FALSETTOS, will perform at Cabaret Gourmet 2010. Ms. Walsh recently appeared on Broadway in the acclaimed revival of the musical COMPANY, receiving a Drama Desk Award nomination.
Bryan Batt, who portrayed Salvatore Romano on AMC's Emmy Award-winning MAD MEN, has appeared on Broadway numerous times including in LA CAGE AUX FOLLES, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER, SUNSET BOULEVARD and CATS, as well as Off-Broadway in JEFFREY and FORBIDDEN BROADWAY. Mr. Batt's film and TV credits include "Ghost Whisperer," "Rescue Me," "Jeffrey" and "Kiss Me Guido."
The Cabaret Gourmet 2010 gala committee includes Carmine D. Boccuzzi and Bernard Lumpkin, Marianne and Steve Mills, Cathy Glaser and Steve Semlitz.
The Play Company's board of directors includes Michael Dweck, Ruth Hendel, Lawrence Kaplen, Kate Loewald, Victoria Reese, George Sheanshang, Jeffrey A. Sine and Christian Yegen.
This spring The Play Company will present the American debut of Toshiki Okada's play ENJOY (March 27-April 25), directed by Dan Rothenberg Off-Broadway at 59E59 Theaters. As well, from March 4 to April 11, The Play Company will join forces with Playwrights Horizons and Culture Project to present the world premiere of Kia Corthron's play A COOL DIP IN THE BARREN SAHARAN CRICK, directed by Chay Yew, Off-Broadway at Playwrights Horizons.
The Play Company is dedicated to adventurous new writing by playwrights from the U.S. and around the world, linking NYC artists and audiences to a whole world of plays. Recent productions include the NY premiere of Lloyd Suh's AMERICAN HWANGAP (U.S.), the U.S. premieres of Przemyslaw Wojcieszek's MADE IN POLAND (Poland); Robert Farquhar's BAD JAZZ (England), Vijay Tendulkar's SAKHARAM BINDER (India); Yoji Sakate's THE ATTIC (Japan); and The Presnyakov Brothers' TERRORISM (Russia); as well as world premieres of the American plays SMASHING by Brooke Berman and HIGH DIVE by Leslie Ayvazian. Play Co. received a 2007 Obie Award for its "unique contribution to the theatre community."
