Barnes and Noble Book Fair to Present Benefit For the Nuyo, 2/23

Next Thursday, a lineup of Nuyo poets and musicians will perform a free show at Barnes and Noble Tribeca to kick off a week-long book fair; proceeds from the fair will  benefit the Nuyo.  The show is hosted by Advocate of Wordz and features slam poets Aja Monet, Witness, Andrea Harrison and Joseph D. Robbins, with music by Aurora and Mighty Third Rail. The show starts at 7PM on 2/23; Barnes and Noble Tribeca is located at 97 Warren Street, near the Chambers Street station of the 1, 2 and 3 trains.    

Part of the proceeds from any book or e-book purchase you make at Barnes and Noble Tribeca or online at www.bn.com between Feb 22 and 27 will benefit the Nuyo.  If you're shopping online, check the box for a Book Fair order while on the checkout page and enter  ID # 10699460 as the book fair ID.  If you make an in-store purchase, give the ID number when you checkout.

Afrazz @ 7pm on Saturday 2/18. Percussionist and producer Ronnie Roc bridges West-African and Afro-Caribbean rhythms with jazz and original compositions in a mesmerizing musical performance. Tickets online.

Rocky Presents Words Hip-hop and Poetry Showcase @ 10PM on Saturday 2/18, featuring a top-notch live band. Tickets are $13 (or $10 for students).

The Nuyo's Love Week wraps up with Occupy the Heart, an LGBTQ-friendly Valentine's Variety Show @ 7pm on Sunday, 2/19. Presented by Urban Productions and the Fresh Fruit Festival.  Tickets online.

Facebook Comes Alive @ 7pm on Tuesday 2/21.  Philip Galinsky returns to the Nuyo with his hit show about social media and storytelling. Tickets online. 

Eugene Marlow's Heritage Ensemble performs original compositions and arrangements of Hebraic melodies in Afro-Cuban, Brazilian, and neo-classical styles; at 7pm on Friday 2/24. Tickets online.   

BAM presents Poetry 2012: Grand Slam!  A dynamic cross-generational, multicultural, and interdisciplinary spoken word program. Hosted by two of hip-hop's best-known artists- emcee Baba Israel and DJ Reborn. At the BAM Harvey Theater; tickets start at $10.

She'Baltimore is a new play about domestic violence within the LGBT community.  Written by Ira Kip and produced by Nicol Moeller, this powerful dramatic work is premiering at Baltimore's Loft Theater, where it runs through February 26.  Tickets are $20.
