Babs is in the house! According to the New York Daily News, Barbra Streisand received a standing ovation at a recent performance of Broadway's AN AMERICAN IN PARIS.
According to the report, audience members were over the moon when the legendary star was spotted returning to her seat just prior to the start of Act Two of the Tony nominated musical, now playing at The Palace Theater.
A 'spy' tells the Daily News, "Someone in the audience spotted her and screamed 'It's Barbra!!!'". As word of her presense spread throughout the crowd, "the entire audience stood up applauding." Streisand acknowledged the love from her fans and quickly waved at the crowd to take their seats in order that the second act of the show could get underway.
Following the performance, Ms. Streisand reportedly went back stage to greet the cast. "She said she loved it," says the source.
Streisand recently presented her 'The Way We Were' co-star Robert Redford with the Film Society of Lincoln Center's Chaplin Award last Monday night.Streisand has appeared on Broadway in I CAN GET IT FOR YOU WHOLESALE and FUNNY GIRL. She has also received a special Tony Award. Her film work includes FUNNY GIRL, FUNNY LADY, YENTL, and NUTS. A lauded performer, she has won numerous awards including the Oscar, Grammy, and Emmy awards. She is also the recipient of National Medal of Honor, France's Légion d'honneur, the American Film Institute Life Achievement Award, and the Kennedy Center Honors.
She won Academy Awards in 1968 for Best Actress in her acting debut in Funny Girl and Best Song for A Star Is Born. Her directing debut, 1983's Yentl, earned five Oscar nominations. She went on to direct, produce and star in pics like THE PRINCE Of Tides and The Mirror Has Two Faces.
