James Barbour is among the 8-person ensemble of Lewis and Clark Reach the Euphrates, the new "tragi-comedy in two centuries" by Pulitzer Prize-winner Robert Schenkkan (The Kentucky Cycle) that will run at the Mark Taper Forum (135 North Grand Ave.) in Los Angeles from December 11th, 2005 through January 22nd, 2006; previews begin December 1st.

Barbour (Assassins, Jane Eyre, Beauty and the Beast) and Jeffrey Nordling will be seen in the title roles, while 48 other characters will also be played by Roy Abramsohn, Tony Amendola, Rubén C. González, Eugene Lee, Tess Lina, Ty Mayberry, Randy Oglesby and Morgan Rusler. The show, which is directed by Gregory Boyd, is
"a fantastical journey re-imagining the missteps of those intrepid explorers, Lewis and Clark, as they try to realize President Jefferson's dream of an 'Empire of Liberty.' Through time and space-bending twists and comic turns, Meriwether Lewis and William Clark find themselves hurtling down river rapids into the fray of various other American crusades. Accompanied by Sacagawea, their Shoshone guide, the Corps of Discovery struggles to achieve their mission under the surprisingly heavy weight of Manifest Destiny, as well as an acutely bad sense of direction!," state press notes.

Among the show's design team are Jeff Cowie (sets), Judith Dolan (costumes), Howell Binkley (lighting) and John Gromada (music and sound).

The Mark Taper Forum's line up for the 2005-2006 season also includes: Chekhov's The Cherry Orchard, starring Annette Bening, from February 2nd to March 19th, 2006, Joshua Sobol's iWitness from March 30th to May 21st, Alfred Uhry's Without Walls from June 1st to July 16th and Culture Clash's Water & Power from July 27th to September 17th.
