Stage Door Records are pleased to announce the debut CD release of Barbara Cook's first solo album SONGS OF PERFECT PROPRIETY BY DOROTHY PARKER on June 17th 2016. The release continues Stage Door's COLLECTOR'S SERIES, a line of limited edition CD products that celebrate Broadway shows and vocalists of the 1950s and 60s.

Barbara Cook is unquestionably one of the most dynamic Broadway voices of the past century, with a career spanning the early 1950's to the present. Her pure lyric soprano has graced such classics as "Plain and Fancy", "The Music Man", "She Loves Me", "Oklahoma", "Carousel", "The King and I" and "Follies" and her concert performances are legendary.

As a recording artist Cook has released countless studio and live albums including the best-selling 'It's Better With A Band' and the Grammy nominated 'Count Your Blessings'. Cook was first heard on record as featured performer on the original cast recordings of 'Flahooley' (1951), 'Plain And Fancy' (1955), 'Candide' (1956) and 'The Music Man' (1957), her first solo album 'Songs Of Perfect Propriety' was recorded in 1958.

Released on the independent Urania label in November 1958, 'Songs Of Perfect Propriety' featured Cook performing a song cycle of Dorothy Parker poems and verses set to music by opera and chamber music composer Seymour Barab. 'Songs Of Perfect Propriety' holds the distinction of being the first published song cycle that set various light verses by Dorothy Parker from 'The Portable Dorothy Parker' to music. Because it was uncustomary for feministic literature to be set to music by male or female composers in the first half of the twentieth century, 'Songs of Perfect Propriety' is deemed as a highly significant work for singers of the modern art song repertoire. Seymour Barab's music parallels the humour with which Parker was able to convey the truth and is interpreted with wit and sophistication by Barbara Cook on this recording.

The release of Songs Of Perfect Propriety by Dorothy Parker continues Stage Door's COLLECTOR'S SERIES, a line of limited edition CD products presented in the retro style of a miniature long-playing record. All Collector's Series titles are limited to 500 units.
