On January 30th at 7 PM, the Cherry Lane Theatre will hold a special talkback performance for its hit Off-Broadway revival of Amiri Baraka's Dutchman.
The talkback, presented as part of the Cherry Lane Theatre Black Artist Forum, will take place the same evening that the New York Library for the Performing Arts tapes the show for posterity.
The evening will include: Baraka, Billie Allen, Ed Bullins, Bill Duke, Michael Bradford, Katori Hall, Woodie King Jr., Nilija Sun and Bridgette Wimberly.
"This shocking classic race drama, Dutchman, returns to the place where it all began in 1964 at the Cherry Lane Theatre. In Amiri Baraka's Obie-Award Winning last play as LeRoi Jones, a white woman seduces a naïve bourgeois black man on the train with terrifying results. The themes and issues of this play are just as relevant today as the day it premiered, if not more so," as press notes describe the show.
Dutchman is directed by Bill Duke and stars Dulé Hill (Broadway's The Tap Dance Kid and Bring in Da Noise, Bring in Da Funk, "The West Wing") and Jennifer Mudge (The Stendhal Syndrome).
The Cherry Lane Theatre Mainstage is located at 38 Commerce Street off of 7th Ave. Performances currently end February 10th, Performances run Monday and Tuesday at 7pm, Wednesday through Friday at 8pm and Saturday at 2:00 and 8:00 PM.
