Scott Sternberg, the man behind Band of Outsiders, is taking his business to the next level. As he boarded a New York-bound plane in Los Angeles Tuesday, Sternberg said, "I have to be slightly vague" about a cadre of new investors in his firm.
"I maintained total control of the business, but with these really awesome people putting money and experience and support in," he said. "It's not like I'm looking for an out or anything like that. It's the opposite. It's very about investing in a really important expansion phase."

Scott Sternberg launched
Band of Outsiders in 2004, designing recontextualized vintage-inspired looks with hand-sewn seams and shrunken proportions. The brand's overall look is one of sharply cut dress shirts and slim-fitting, tailored suits and knits with a boyish appeal. Though increasingly popular in the States, the label's biggest market is Tokyo. Former Fashion File host Tim Blanks notes of Sternberg: "He's a little like Junya Watanabe, able to train a detached eye on the familiar and find the exotic in the mundane.
