BroadwayWorld rides to the Texas prairie in these highlights from 110 in the Shade!
On Wednesday, May 9th, the Roundabout Theatre Company's new Broadway production of 110 in the Shade, starring Tony Award-winner Audra McDonald as Lizzie Curry, Tony Award-winner John Cullum as H. C. Curry and Steve Kazee as Starbuck, opened on Broadway at Studio 54. The show is currently nominated for five 2007 Tony Awards, including Best Revival of a Musical, Best Actress in a Musical (McDonald) and Best Featured Actor in a Musical (Cullum).
110 in the Shade features a book by N. Richard Nash, music by Harvey Schmidt, lyrics by Tom Jones, choreography by Dan Knechtges and direction by Lonny Price. 110 in the Shade is playing a limited engagement through July 15th, 2007 at Studio 54 on Broadway (254 West 54th Street). The cast also includes Elisa Van Duyne, Colleen Fitzpatrick, Valisia Lekae Little, Darius Nichols, Mamie Parris, Devin Richards, Michael Scott, Will Swenson, Matt Wall, Betsy Wolfe.
"In the middle of a heat wave in 1930's Texas, when everyone is longing for rain, or a breeze, Lizzie Curry (McDonald) is on the verge of becoming a hopeless old maid. Her wit, intelligence and skills as a homemaker can't make up for the fact that she can't find true love. Even the town sheriff, for whom she harbors a secret yen, won't take a chance. However, when a charismatic rainmaker named Starbuck (Kazee) enters the town and her family's life, Lizzie's world is turned upside down," as press materials describe the show.
