The New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF) will host auditions for the 2011 NYMF's Next Broadway Sensation Competition beginning tomorrow, September 8. Sponsored in part by BroadwayWorld, the singing competition is returning for its sixth year and will take place at New World Stages on three subsequent Saturdays - September 17th, September 24th, and October 1st. Produced by NYMF in association with New World Stages, this talent competition seeks to find the newest musical theatre star. Doors for the competition open at 10:30pm each evening.

Tony Award winner Beth Leavel (Baby It's You!, The Drowsy Chaperone) will be on the judging panel on September 17th with Andrew Kober (Hair) as the host.

Auditions for NYMF's Next Broadway Sensation will take place at Stage 2 of New World Stages tomorrow, Thursday, September 8th from 12-6pm. The lobby will serve as the waiting room. NYMF's Next Broadway Sensation is open to singers aged 18 and over who have Broadway flair but no Broadway credits. Potential "Broadway Sensations" should prepare 16 bars of the show tune that best demonstrates their vocal chops. An accompanist will be provided, but aspiring sensations need to bring sheet music, headshots and resumes.

Callbacks for the Competition are Saturday, September 10th from 1-6pm at Stage 5 of New World Stages, and these will be made by appointment.

The winner will receive a special solo concert, co-presented by NYMF and Grammy Award-winning producer Sh-K-Boom Records.

Over three exciting weekly concerts, ten singers battle their way to the top and their fate will be decided by audience votes. A panel of industry pros will also be on hand each week to offer feedback and advice. Past celebrity commentators and judges have included Marc Kudish, Jonathan Groff, Stephanie D'Abruzzo, Donna Lynne Champlin, and Tom Kitt. Contestants have gone on to appear in numerous Broadway and Off-Broadway shows, including American Idiot, Hair, West Side Story, South Pacific, Women on the Verge, and many more. This year's competition will be music directed by Alexander Rovang and directed by Travis Greisler.
