BroadwayWorld.com is, once again, celebrating the Holiday Season with a special 'countdown' which will reveal some favorite holiday-themed performances! For the 5th Anniversary of this Exclusive Feature, we've invited director/producer Richard Jay-Alexander to be our first-ever Guest Editor, to share with us HIS holiday favorites. His list will be composed of holiday songs and boasting performances with artists we know and love from Broadway and beyond. We'll bet that this countdown will surely get you into the holiday spirit, as the big day rolls around on December 25th, but we won't forget Chanukkah and Kwanzaa either. This is sure to be a 'Must Check-In Daily' event to see what's on RJA's list, while we wish you Happy Holidays from all of us at BroadwayWorld.com!
I'm thrilled to hear from so many of you, that you are really "into" and enjoying BroadwayWorld's 12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS Feature "videos." Today is DAY 6 and I'm REALLY EXCITED to share this one with you. I think Christine Pedi is one of New York's best kept secrets. The girl is INSANELY talented and I would cast in her in just about anything.
She's funny, talented, smart and the entire continent of North America now knows this, as she is one of SIRIUS XM On Broadway's daily hosts. She also does "Dueling Divas" with another host, the AH-MAZING Seth Rudetsky, on Saturdays. I am a "self-confessed" addict of the On Broadway Channel (72) and Seth and Christine and Julie James and John Tartaglia have gotten me through alot of long drives, with style, panache, wit, and TONS OF GREAT STORIES.
I first remember laying eyes on Pedi, in the early years of FORBIDDEN BROADWAY. Since that, her accomplishments are many. In addition, she is brilliant at imitating famous stars and their voices, both speaking AND singing ... which is not easy. But, back in 2005, I saw her in a Holiday show called A BROADWAY DIVA CHRISTMAS at the Julia Miles Theatre. The cast was led by Broadway talents Ellen Greene, Maya Days, Kathy Brier, Marla Schaffel and Christine Pedi. The show also featured Tedi Marsh, Kate Pazakis, Sally Schwab and N'Kenge Simpson-Hoffman. Brian Nash served as the show's Musical Director.
Fast-Forward to 2006, when I directed the Holiday Benefit for BroadwayWorld at Joe's Pub at the Public Theater, with monies raised going to Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and enter: Christine Pedi. The night consisted of a line-up of talent, all doing Holiday material. The show was called BroadwayWorld.com ON ICE. It was fun and moving and began with a teeny-tiny overture and set-piece of a mechanical ice-skating rink, with skaters, in a tiny spotlight to set the tone. I then assigned the actors, each of them, to make their entrance, with a pair of ice skates either tossed over their shoulders .... or however they would like to implement them. It was ridiculous and fun and "you had to be there."
BUT .... where all of this is headed is ... I remembered seeing Christine do THIS number in A BROADWAY DIVA CHRISTMAS and asked her to repeat it for US. It was brilliant THEN ... it is still brilliant NOW .... and I have NO WORDS to describe this girl's gifts.
So, for DAY 6, we present to you Christine Pedi as a Roxie-ish Hart, in a time when the revival of CHICAGO is now the 2nd Longest Running Show in Broadway History! A Holiday Gift to you, from BroadwayWorld. Never-Before-Seen Footage from the VAULTS. (Special Thanks to Rob Diamond and Nicole Rosky).
You don't want to miss this one!
AND... FYI, you can see Christine Pedi, live, in her upcoming show SNOW BIZNESS, at 54 Below on December 27th! For the latest on her schedule, click here. :)
