Based on best-selling novelist Nicholas Sparks' ("A Walk to Remember," "The Notebook") latest novel, THE LAST SONG is set in a small Southern beach town where an estranged father gets a chance to spend the summer with his reluctant teenaged daughter, who'd rather be home in New York. He tries to reconnect with her through the only thing they have in common-music-in a story of family, friendship, secrets and salvation, along with first loves and second chances. The film is directed by Julie Anne Robinson from a screenplay by Sparks & Jeff Van Wie.
The film stars Miley Cyrus, Liam Hemsworth, Bobby Coleman, Hallock Beals, Nick Lashaway, Carly Chaikin, Nick Searcy, Kate Vernon, with Kelly Preston and Greg Kinnear.
THE LAST SONG is presented by producers Adam Shankman, Jennifer Gibgot, co-producer: Dara Weintraub and executive producer Tish Cyrus. The film hits movie screens on April 2, 2010.
Adam Shankman's directorial credits include "Bedtime Stories" (2008), "Hairspray" (2007), "A Walk to Remember" (2002) and "The Wedding Planner" (2001). His upcoming projects include "Rock of Ages," "Sinbad," "Bob: The Musical" and "Bye Bye Birdie." In addition to directing, Shankman, along with his sister, Jennifer Gibgot, produce films through their company, Offspring Entertainment. Together they are currently producing "The Last Song," "Going the Distance" and "Step Up 3D," all set for 2010 release.
Bill Mechanic and Adam Shankman will produce the 82nd Academy Awards telecast. This will be the first major Oscar show involvement for both men.
