The Promises, Promises star joined Mos Def, Simon Doonan, Aimee Mullins, Wes Moore, and Sirdeaner Walker, who shared personal experiences with discrimination and bigotry. Here, Sirdeaner Walker tells her story.

The New York event is part of the USA Network's Characters Unite program, which aims to combat prejudice and discrimination through public service announcements and live story-telling events in communities and high schools across the country. USA has aligned with the non-profit storytelling orgnization, The Moth, to create the project. Each show will include five storytellers sharing a true, personal experience of facing bigotry or discrimination.

USA Network is taking Characters Unite, its multi-platform public service campaign to combat prejudice and discrimination, into communities and high schools across the country through a special partnership with The Moth, the renowned nonprofit storytelling organization, and Multichannel Video Programming Distributors MVPD.   The partnership includes Characters Unite-themed Moth "Mainstage" storytelling shows in five cities nationwide.  Each Mainstage show features five storytellers sharing a true, personal experience of facing bigotry or discrimination.

The NYC show is part of USA's Characters Unite Month, which kicked off November 22, and includes: original programming, on-air promotion and PSAs, extensive online content including a new Facebook-based game, educational programs, a new national poll, the announcement of the winners of the Characters Unite Awards, and more. A More Perfect Union: Stories of Prejudice and Power is presented locally in NYC by Time Warner Cable. The tour's first stop was in New Orleans in October and will head to Chicago, Denver and Seattle next.
