Today, Dr. Oz celebrates his 1000th episode with special guest Hugh Jackman (Les Miserables, Broadway's THE RIVER). In this celebratory episode, Jackman will open up about why he chose to play Wolverine one last time. He'll also open up about his battle with skin cancer, and why he chose to share his diagnosis with his fans. Check out a sneak peek below!
On why he chose to leave the role of Wolverine, Jackman said: "It is my last time... It felt like it was the right time to do it. I sat next to Jerry Seinfeld, a good friend of mine, at a dinner party, and I found myself quizzing him about the end of "Seinfeld." And I said, 'How did you know?' ...I remember him saying, 'I have too much love for the people I work with, for the fans who enjoyed the show, to not give everything and to be excited to go to work everyday.' And I still feel like that about Wolverine and I never want to be in a situation where I signed up for another movie and I'm like, 'Hmmm it's hard and I don't want to train.' The moment I made the decision it felt right to me."
On why he opened up about his battle with skin cancer, Jackman shared: "There's a lot of people my age with this thing, and I thought, if I put it out there, and if I say, 'Get a checkup', then guys my age go, 'Hmm...yeah, maybe I should.' Kids who watch Wolverine go, 'Oh, if Wolverine is doing it, maybe I'll get my dad to do it' or, maybe, 'I'll wear sunscreen.' And I just figured, I'm just an ordinary, normal person, and the most valuable thing for me is just to share it."
