A drug-suggestive billboard promoting the musical XANADU that sparked outrage from neighbors and parents whose kids attend an elementary school across the street was pulled down by local officials.

The large XANADU billboard promoted the show with a quote from a review in Vanity Fair magazine: "IT'S LIKE TAKING ECSTASY." The "Xanadu" billboard had been visible from the front and the busy playground of the Nettelhorst Elementary School. NBC 5 TV Chicago had a report on the "scandal" that STAGE TUBE brings you right here on BWW TV!

XANADU opened at Broadway's Helen Hayes Theatre to critical acclaim on July 10, 2007 as the first new musical of the 2007/2008 season. Since the 2007 opening, the award-winning musical garnered the best reviews of the season, with critics and audiences leaping to their feet! Winner of Best Musical (Outer Critics Circle Award) and Best Book (Drama Desk Award), The New York Times raved XANADU is "heaven on wheels," and the Washington Post said this musical is "a triumph!"

XANADU, the show the surprised and delighted Broadway, is now in Chicago offering a "Happy Sale" featuring $44 tickets. Part of Broadway In Chicago 2008-2009 season, XANADU is at the Drury Lane Theatre Water Tower Place (175 E Chestnut St).
