Andrew Lloyd Webber's hugely successful musical on roller skates STARLIGHT EXPRESS - 'A Cinderella-meets-train enthusiast love story' - will play in New Zealand, for the first time, in July and August of 2009.

Will Martin sings the title song from Andrew Lloyd Weber's Starlight Express from the forthcoming stadium tour. Stage Tube brings you the dynamic singer's performance here on BWW TV!

Press notes stats that this new version, with additional new songs, and state-of-the-art technology, is now an arena show with all the impact that can be gained in that environment. The orchestrations have been updated with a hip modern sound, some of the freight cars are now "hip-hoppers", and there will be specialist stunt skaters performing some "extreme sports" elements.

It's known as "the fastest show on Earth" and it's going to be a major event in NZ in 09.

The show opens in Wellington's TSB Arena on 1 July, the Westpac Arena in Christchurch on 11 July, and Auckland's Vector Arena on 25 July.

STARLIGHT EXPRESS is composed by multi-award winner Andrew Lloyd Webber (Cats, Phantom of the Opera, Evita, Jesus Christ Superstar). With lyrics by Richard Stilgoe,Don Black and David Yazbek; and choreography by Arlene Phillips.

The story follows a child's dream in which his toy train set comes to life; famously the show is very unique as all 28 performers are on roller skates.

Composer, Andrew Lloyd Webber said, "Starlight Express started life in 1975 as a sort of Cinderella story which I hoped would be an animated movie. It never got off the ground. Then in 1983 I rewrote it for my children, in the version that opened in March 1984 in the theatre".

Since opening at the Apollo Victoria in London on 27th March 1984 it has been produced in Germany, USA, Canada, Japan, Australia and Mexico, as well as a production on ice in 1997.

STARLIGHT EXPRESS is second only to CATS as the longest running musical in British theatre history.

Tickets are on sale now - from Ticketek for Wellington and Christchurch, andTicketmaster for Auckland.
