Big screen action icon Dwayne "the Rock" Johnson showed off his song and dance skills on Saturday night March 7th as the host of NBC's SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE. The former superstar wrestler opened the show by addressing suggestions Hollywood has made him soft, and then broke into a Chicago-style production number, backed up by dancers, he ripped off his suit to reveal his muscled and tattooed arms and chest, covered only by a black sparkling vest!

Johnson not only had a blast poking fun at himself, but showed off surprisingly solid musical theatre skills. Is his days as a Broadway "Billy Flynn" far off? He certainly would set the Rialto ablaze with excitement if he joined a Broadway musical. Johnson himself has expressed interest in doing some song and dance on a New York stage sometime soon, commenting to contactmusic.com that, "I'd love to do a musical. I've been known to have a good step or two. I'm half Samoan, you know, and part of our culture is singing and dancing daily."

"Saturday Night Live," NBC's Emmy Award-winning late-night comedy showcase, began its 34thrd season on September 13, 2008 (11:30 p.m. - 1:00 a.m. ET) for another year of laughs, surprises and great performances.

Over the last thirty years, "SNL" has launched the careers of many of the brightest comedy performers of a generation and as "The New York Times" noted on the occasion of the show's Emmy winning 25th Anniversary special in 1999: "In defiance of both time and show business convention, "SNL" [is] still the most pervasive influence on the art of comedy in contemporary culture." At the close of the century, "Saturday Night Live" placed seventh on Entertainment Weekly's list of the Top 100 Entertainers of the past fifty years.
