2008 was a year of creative riches, personal triumphs and stunning loss. As an industry we were rewarded with beloved favorites bringing iconic passion to bold new work, and talented newcomers breathing dynamic life into cherished classics.
As a country we saw a massive demand for change, and after what seemed like forever, a collective wish was granted. That wish is ever more important as we stand on uncertain ground, yet the road looking forward is open and clear.
Loss took us by surprise in 2008 as it always does, leaving us with the memories of artistic mavericks who will continue to inspire us for years to come. In that little 36 theatre enclave we call Broadway we were also faced with saying goodbye to several productions that have brought passion and joy to many an eager fan, and many a talented performer.
We at BroadwayWorld are excited to bring you this small reminder of all that we gained and lost in 2008, during the video you'll see the expert work of our photographers. Every opening night, every special event and every final performance you'll find them, active and alive with excitement as they capture each and every moment.
It is with great pleasure that we salute Linda Lenzi, Walter McBride, Peter James Zielinski, Genevieve Rafter-Keddy, Pablo Pimienta and Amy Shaughnessy for sharing their expressive craft with us here at BWW so we could bring it all to you this past year.
And as we look back on 2008, it is fitting to end with lyrics from one of the many shows we bid farewell to during the last year, RENT, Happy New Year everyone, we wish you a truly wonderful 2009!
