TV: Mitzi Gaynor Celebrates SOUTH PACIFIC DVD Release

South Pacific movie star and Golden Globe-nominee Mitzi Gaynor; current Broadway cast member and Tony Award-nominee Loretta Ables Sayre; original Broadway cast members Barbara Luna, Michael DeLeon and Noel DeLeon; Broadway historian and author of The South Pacific Companion, Laurence Maslon; and President of The Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization, Ted Chapin all came together to celebrate the South Pacific 50th Anniversary Collector's Edition Blu-ray Disc release at the Lincoln Center Barnes & Noble in New York City.

Original and current South Pacific stars joined together to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the original, Tony Award winning Broadway production; the 50th anniversary of the Academy Award winning movie adaptation; and the 1st year anniversary of Lincoln Center Theater's Tony Award winning Broadway revival. BWW TV was there to celebrate along with the "happy takin'" crowd!

The South Pacific 50th Anniversary Collector's Edition Blu-ray Disc (BD) debuted on March 31st from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment, and features a special "Road Show Version" of the film, a feature-length documentary "Passion, Prejudice and South Pacific: Creating An American Masterpiece",Mitzi Gaynor's screen test, vintage excerpts from the original Broadway stars, and more.

Filmed on location on the beautiful Hawaiian island of Kaua'i,South Pacific is about a young American nurse from Little Rock (Gaynor) who meets the handsome and mysterious French planter (Brazzi) on a South Pacific island during World War II. Seeking respite from the battles around them, they find refuge in each other as their romance blooms in the lush tropical paradise. The natural beauty of the islands, the hijinks of the sailors, the danger of war, the passion of young love and the strength of true love are joined by a sensational Rodgers & Hammerstein score.
