This week, Seth welcomes SISTER ACT's Sarah Bolt and Marla Mindelle and Broadway's favorite curmudgeon, the hilarious Jackie Hoffman.
It may be argued that Broadway/film actress Jackie Hoffman is the female Rodney Dangerfield - she just can't get no respect. "Could not get an audition for FIDDLER ON THE ROOF", bemoans the actress, who is the first to joke about her Jewish ethnicity. "They told me they were going in another direction, which I guess was Nazi Germany."
The comedian recently wrapped up her one-woman show, JACKIE FIVE-O, at Joe's Pub in New York. Hoffman explained to "Live's" audience that the show's title refers to what she calls her "first 50th Birthday." The show received rave reviews from critics across the board and was extended five times during its run.
In addition, she continues to tear up audiences eight times a week in Broadway's THE ADDAMS FAMILY in the role of ‘Grandma'. Hoffman takes pleasure in the fact that the show is now entering its second year on Broadway, despite the harsh reviews it received from the press. As she put it, "It was the most reviled, criticized, victimized, shat upon financially successful group of people since the Jews!"
In her signature irritable style, Hoffman recounted the story of how she had to pass up a chance to appear in the CBS series, "The Good Wife". " I got cast in 'The Good Wife', a very successful series. There's no TV work left, so it was very rare," explained the actress. Unfortunately, her show was not quite as enthused about her opportunity. "The ADDAMS FAMILY would not let me do it because I would miss a Wednesday matinee and that particular Wednesday matinee, the character I play, Grandma, was having a fictional birthday. So it was a press thing where I had to say hello to senior citizens who got free tickets. And you know how many senior citizens showed up for free tickets to THE ADDAMS FAMILY that day? TWO!" AddEd Hoffman sarcastically, "But what a fictional birthday it was. I'll tell ya - if you only go around once, the memories. You just can't buy something like that!"
Jackie Hoffman is currently starring in THE ADDAMS FAMILY at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre. For tickets and information, please visit: www.theaddamsfamilymusical.com
