This Sunday, ABC launches GALAVANT, a brand new musical comedy extravaganza from the Tony, Grammy, and Oscar winning composer Alan Menken ("The Little Mermaid," "Aladdin," "Beauty and the Beast"). Recently, I spoke with stars Joshua Sasse and Karen David via telephone about the show. ABC was kind enough to record their responses in this video. I would have been on camera as well, but, as you can tell by my voice, I was pretty under-the-weather when we spoke. Check it out below.
Menken's regular collaborator lyricist Glenn Slater ("The Little Mermaid," "Tangled") teamed up with screenwriter/executive producer Dan Fogelman ("Crazy, Stupid, Love," "Tangled," "Cars") to create this new show that is part SPAMALOT, part THE PRINCESS BRIDE, and a whole lot of fun. I will be recapping and reviewing every episode of the four-week-run, so remember to check out all of BroadwayWorld's coverage as Menken looks to get the final piece of his EGOT.
Once upon a time, the dashing hero,GALAVANT (Joshua Sasse), lost the love of his life, Madalena (Mallory Jansen), to the evil King Richard (Timothy Omundson). Now, our fallen hero is ready to take revenge and restore his "happily ever after." But it won't be without a few twists and turns along the way. GALAVANT will premiere on SUNDAY, JANUARY 4 (8:00-9:00 p.m., ET) with two 30 minute episodes, back-to-back on the ABC Television Network. The eight episode series will run through Sunday nights in January.
