On Monday night, the Drama League's 31st Annual Musical Celebration of Broadway honored legendary Emmy®, Grammy®, Oscar® and Tony® Award (EGOT) winner James Earl Jones at The Pierre Hotel. Below, BroadwayWorld brings you highlights from inside the ceremony!
The Musical Celebration of Broadway brought together 500+ of New York City's most influential arts supporters, celebrities, and luminaries for a black-tie evening of cocktails, dinner, and the acclaimed, unforgettable musical revue that is the signature of the event. Featuring dozens of stars from film, television and theatre, the Musical Celebration of Broadway, the evening's one-of-a-kind musical tribute -- inspired by Mr. Jones' career - included Annaleigh Ashford, Elizabeth Ashley, Anna Chlumsky, Tyne Daly, Kelsey Grammer, Julie Halston, Ruben Santiago-Hudson, James Monroe Iglehart, Jefferson Mays, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Kristine Nielsen, Estelle Parsons, Phylicia Rashad,Christopher Sieber, Richard Thomas, John Douglas Thompson, Dylan Walsh, Leslie Uggams, Susyn Waldman, Alton Fitzgerald White, and Special Tribute given by cast members of Broadway's You Can't Take It With You and Jersey Boys. Broadway veteran and You Can't Take It With You cast mate Nick Corley directed.
During the evening's festivities, The Drama League also recognized the acclaimed CBS Television series "The Good Wife" as its 2015 Arts Ally in recognition of Executive Producers Robert and Michelle King and Series Casting DirectorMark Saks, whose enthusiastic support of the Broadway community and its artists have immeasurably benefited both the television and theater industries. Mr. Saks accepted the recognition from Tony Award-winning actor Alan Cumming, currently starring in the Roundabout Theatre Company revival of Cabaret and as a series regular on "The Good Wife."
