This week on March 2, 2010, the new cast of Broadway's Tony Award-winning Best Play, God of Carnage, including Tony nominee Dylan Baker (Alan), original Broadway cast member and Tony nominee Jeff Daniels (Michael), Emmy nominee Lucy Liu (Annette), and Tony winner for the West End production of God of Carnage Janet McTeer (Veronica), took the stage at the Bernard Jacobs Theatre.

The production recently partnered with BroadwayWorld exclusively to bring you "Cooking with Carnage," providing an inside look at Broadway baker Tara Lydia Smith's kitchen where the famed clafoutis actually consumed by the God of Carnage cast each night is made.  Watch the clip below from BroadwayWorld TV for a full cooking instructional and feedback from Jeff Daniels and Dylan Baker on the dessert!

Straight from Tara's kitchen, you too can prepare the God of Carnage clafoutis:

1 firm apple
2 Tablespoons granulated sugar
3 Tablespoons All-purpose flour
1 Large Egg + 1 Large Egg White
1 Cup skim milk

Pre-heat oven to 375 degrees F.

Peel, core and slice apple into very thin pieces

Fan apple pieces out to cover the entire bottom of a lightly greased 9" pie/tart pan.

Add Sugar, Sifted flour, 1 egg + 1 egg white to bowl, slowly whisk and incorporate all of the milk in until the batter is 'smooth' ..

Strain mixture over apple slices in the pan and immediately place in oven for about 35 minutes.

Sides will become 'puffed up' and edges will brown at about 15-20 minutes of baking, allow clafoutis to continue baking so the 'custard' sets properly and the apples are able to bake through.

Remove from oven (it should jiggle "firmly" to the touch), let cool until "warm" and serve immediately (holds for a few days)

This basic low-fat/low-calorie version can be served with fresh whipped-cream and berries.

Modifications:

Modifications can be made as long as the basic ingredients are kept. For instance why not omit apples & sugar and use a dash of salt and some of slices of potato & shreds of your favorite cheese.. How about some cooked bacon !??!

Or get more traditional and instead of apples, use whole un-pitted cherries along with full-fat cream instead of skim milk.

---------

God of Carnage is a comedy of manners without the manners. The play deals with the aftermath of a playground altercation between two boys and what happens when their parents meet to talk about it.

After receiving rave reviews in London, God of Carnage opened on Broadway March 22, 2009 to unanimous praise. The Yasmina Reza comedy won the Tony Award for Best Play and Best Direction of a Play (Matthew Warchus). God of Carnage also won the 2009 Olivier Award for Best New Comedy. God of Carnage reunites the creative team that staged the Tony Award-winning Best Play, Art. Designed by Mark Thompson (sets and costumes), with lighting by Hugh Vanstone, sound by Simon Baker & Chris Cronin, the play has music by Gary Yershon.
