On Thursday May 22, 2008 the 54th annual Broadway Softball league opened their season at the Heckscher Fields in Central Park.

Participating this year for the opening day festivities were Chris Jackson (In The Heights), Jenna Russell (Sunday in the Park With George) and George Wendt (Hairspray). The day celebrated not only the beginning of the season and but also included an appearance by Bob Davis who presented a check for $50,000 to Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids on behalf of Michelob Ultra, the official sponsor of the 2008 Broadway Softball Season.

Marty Thomas from Xanadu sang the national anthem. For more information please visit www.broadwayshowleague.com
