Last year, BroadwayWorld.com, the largest theater website on the Internet, launched a comprehensive Student Database listing college and university performing arts programs across the country. This free service makes it easier for prospective students by showcasing programs searchable by schools, location, degrees and concentrations.

With the new school year in full gear, BWW has updated the fully-interactive Student Show Calendar with 2011-2012 student productions. We have also made it easy for schools to upload photos, videos, cast lists, articles and other media content for each of their shows. In addition, BWW will be combing through all content regularly and will launch weekly feature stories highlighting productions locally and nationally that have provided us with this extra content. ***

Today, we are thrilled to announce that the Theatre and Dance Department at Samford University has been chosen as this week's School in the Spotlight! Located in Birmingham, Alabama, the School of the Arts at Samford offers students the opportunity to work toward a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre with tracks in Acting/Directing or Technical/Design, or pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre. Students can also select from a number of minors such as Theatre, Dance, Film Production, and The Arts. While the academic curriculum is comprehensive, Samford University offers a pratical, hands-on approach by engaging students in the creative process of school productions be it in performance, choreography, direction, stage managemeent or supporting the design and technical creative team.

One of the draws of the Theatre and Dance Department at Samford is the opportunity to spend a semester living abroad in London. The study abroad option encompasses a stay at Samford's London Study Centre where students are immersed in theatre history and theory, all the while fulfilling their theatre requirement and taking in the vibrant theatre scene in London.

Samford recently wrapped up its fall semester with the holiday classic, 'White Christmas' (click here for a picture and cast list!). As the new year rolls in, the department will be busy staging shows with a little something for everyone, including Chekhov's 'The Three Sisters', a dance concert, and rounding off the school year with Stephen Sondheim's 'A Little Night Music'.
