Last year, BroadwayWorld.com, the largest theater website on the Internet, launched a comprehensive Student Database listing college and university performing arts programs across the country. This free service makes it easier for prospective students by showcasing programs searchable by schools, location, degrees and concentrations.

With the new school year in full gear, BWW has updated the fully-interactive Student Show Calendar with 2011-2012 student productions. We have also made it easy for schools to upload photos, videos, cast lists, articles and other media content for each of their shows. In addition, BWW will be combing through all content regularly and will launch weekly feature stories highlighting productions locally and nationally that have provided us with this extra content.

Today, BWW is thrilled to announce that Collin College has earned this week's School in the Spotlight mention! Located in Plano, Texas, the Theatre Program at Collin College offers an Associate of Arts degree in theatrical studies. The college has been nationally ranked among the top 50 collegiate drama programs and earned the honor of National Champion of Collegiate Drama in 1996. Students enrolled in Theatre at Collin experience a comprehensive curriculum with courses offered in acting, musical theatre, voice and diction, stage and lighting design, costume design stage makeup, theatre history and script analysis. The program also offers specialty courses in circus skills, stunt work, stage combat, stage management, and acting for the camera. For more information on the Associate of Arts degree, click here.

Graduates of the Theatre Program at Collin have gone on successful careers in film, television, and theatre, including Broadway, regional and touring productions. Amongst alumni names is television and stage actor Michael Urie who is currently starring as 'Bud Frump' in the Broadway hit HOW TO SUCCEED IN BUSINESS WITHOUT REALLY TRYING. Check out a complete list of alumni in 'Where Are They Now?'.

The Collin Theatre Center kicked off an exciting 2011-2012 production season with 'The Pillowman' by Martin McDonagh and the regional premiere of 'Atlas of Mud' written by Jennifer Fawcett. Up next is the hit musical 'Hairspray' running from March 1 thru 11. Upcoming shows include 'Our American Cousin', a yet-to-be announced production of a Shakespeare classic slated for June-July, and the annual Collin Theatre Center Awards celebrating the highlights of the past season.
