Last year, BroadwayWorld.com, the largest theater website on the Internet, launched a comprehensive Student Database listing college and university performing arts programs across the country. This free service makes it easier for prospective students by showcasing programs searchable by schools, location, degrees and concentrations.
With the new school year in full gear, BWW has updated the fully-interactive Student Show Calendar with 2011-2012 student productions. We have also made it easy for schools to upload photos, videos, cast lists, articles and other media content for each of their shows. In addition, BWW will be combing through all content regularly and will launch weekly feature stories highlighting productions locally and nationally that have provided us with this extra content. ***
Today, we're thrilled to shine BWW's spotlight on The Department of Theatre Arts at Catawba College, in Salisbury, North Carolina! The mission of Catawba's Theatre program is "to create artists, not just employable theatre practitioners" by instilling on its students a comprehensive academic training, alongside an emphasis on practical and industry knowledge required to enter into a professional career. Catawba College offers a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre and Musical Theatre, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Education and a Bachelor of Sciences in Theatre Arts Administration. Students enrolled in the program have the option to select a minor in Dance, Musical Theatre, Theatre Arts or Studio Art. The program's alumni who have gone on to star in regional and Broadway productions, include Joey Yow, Sonshine Allen, Anthony Johnson, Jason Duke, Carrie Harris, Jon Jordan, and Paul Saylor. (For a full list of alumni and their credits, click here.)
Catawba College's production seasons are known for offering theater-goers a wide offering with such shows as 'Hello Dolly!' (check out the photos from last year's production), As I Laying, and 'Bright Lights, Big City', making the playbill. On stage this weekend is 'Side by Side by Sondheim' (photos here!) and upcoming productions include 'Dead Man's Cell Phone', 'A Tuna Christmas', 'The Laramie Project Ten Years Later', and 'Huck Finn, A Musical'. For tickets and more information on these shows, visit The Department of Theatre on Facebook or on the school's website.
Congratulations on being selected as BWW's School in the Spotlight, Catawba College! Much success to you as you continue with the academic and performance year!
