While the colorful new musical The Wedding Singer plays its last weekend in Seattle before its big move to Broadway, BroadwayWorld.com is pleased to bring you this first look video! The Wedding Singer begins previews at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre on March 30th and opens on April 27th.
Stephen Lynch ("Comedy Central Presents") and Tony Award-nominee Laura Benanti (Nine, Into the Woods) star, respectively, as love interests Robbie and Julia, with Matthew Saldivar as Robbie's best friend Sammy, Amy Spanger as Julia's best friend Holly, Rita Gardner as Rosie, Richard Blake as Julia's fiancé Glen Gulia, Felicia Finley as ex-fiancee Linda and Kevin Cahoon as George, one of Robbie's bandmates.
The Wedding Singer "is set in 1985 and rock-star wannabe Robbie Hart is New Jersey's favorite wedding singer. He's the life of the party — until his own fiancé leaves him at the altar. Shot through the heart, Robbie makes every wedding as disastrous as his own. Enter Julia, a sweet-tempered waitress who wins his affection. The only trouble is Julia is about to be married to a Wall Street shark. Unless Robbie can pull off the performance of the decade, the girl of his dreams will be gone forever," state press notes. The show is based on the 1998 film, which starred Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore. The Wedding Singer features music by Matthew Sklar, with lyrics by Chad Beguelin, and a book by Tim Herlihy and Chad Beguelin. John Rando (Urinetown) directs the musical, while Tony Award-winner Rob Ashford (Thoroughly Modern Millie) is behind the choreography.
