Lincoln Center Theater's Tony-winning production of THE KING AND I plays its final performance on Broadway today, June 26. The production has played for 39 previews and 499 performances. In honor of the show's run, BroadwayWorld brings you a look back at the cast's journey to Siam!
One of Rodgers & Hammerstein's finest works, The King and I boasts a score which features such beloved classics as Getting To Know You; Hello, Young Lovers; Shall We Dance?; I Have Dreamed; and Something Wonderful. Set in 1860's Bangkok, the musical tells the story of the unconventional and tempestuous relationship that develops between the King of Siam and Anna Leonowens, a British schoolteacher, whom the imperious King brings to Siam to tutor his many wives and children.
After much speculation, it was announced in 2014 that Broadway favorite Kelli O'Hara and Ken Watanabe would lead Bartlett Sher's upcoming revival of THE KING AND I at Lincoln Center's Vivian Beaumont Theatre. Previews kicked off in early 2015 ahead of an opening night of April 16, 2015. Below, check out photos, highlights, and opening night coverage of the production!
