While performing in SPANK! THE FIFTY SHADES PARODY Gabe Bowling and Michelle Vezilj discovered that their onstage chemistry translated well to original music and formed the bi-coastal duo Drink Me Up. Earlier this week, the pair released their first EP. Willing to defy genres to ensure that their songs are truly heartfelt and with a indie, folksy, singer/songwriter edge the couple has created an infectious quartet of songs that will leave listeners wanting nothing but more.
The way Michelle Vezilj and Gabe Bowling blend their voices is unique and entirely enchanting. The most intense and stirring surprises occur in the moments when Gabe Bowling stretches his range to sing above Michelle Vezilj on "Inferno" and "Karma." Across all four tracks, Gabe Bowling and Michelle Vezilj sing with uncompromised personality; however, through deft artistry, they entwine their voices together and croon in such a magical way that the audience is left bewitched and mesmerized. The vocals on the EP are purely riveting and astounding, giving Drink Me Up an instantly recognizable and truly exceptional presence in the world of music.
Each of the four tracks is exciting and refreshing, as each moves listeners with its fierce honesty and sincere emotions. These powerful and decidedly poetic lyrics easily pierce the heart and swirl in the brain, making these songs both intellectually and emotionally rich and satisfying. With quality lyrics and catchy melodies, each of the four songs is vastly relatable and wholly memorable. Out of the four, there is not a single song that I don't adore, but I know that both "Don't Say Sorry" and especially "Karma" will be songs that I will cherish for many years to come.
This vibrant and invigorating collection of original music is a stunning debut for Drink Me Up, and I can't wait to see what the future holds for Michelle Vezilj and Gabe Bowling. If you are a lover of stunning musicality, then you must get your hands on this EP. You won't regret it.
