Last Thursday, we officially "froze" the show, which means that we are finished with any major changes. We continue to receive notes before our performances. However, the choreography, set changes, music, and our script will adhere to Thursday night's version--our final draft, so to speak. This way, we get to marinate in the show a bit while previews continue and then the October 16 opening arrives. Also, it gives the press a chance to see it ahead of time.
We are only a day away from our highly anticipated opening night on the Great White Way. Our audiences thus far have been robust, highly enthusiastic and very supportive. It is thrilling to perform in front of audiences as large as 1,600 for eight shows a week.
Last week, my dear friend Jessica Lang came to see the show and brought her family, including her four year old nephew, Cooper. I had the pleasure of giving him a grand tour of our theater after he saw the show. What a magical experience it was to see his eyes widen with amazement as he stepped onto our stage. I got permission to show a little home video of him singing our theme song. Enjoy. Mind you, he's only four!
The dressing rooms at the Lyric Theatre are abuzz with excitement over this great show's opening, with cast mates asking each other what they're going to wear to opening night, planning gifts, and writing cards. I visited Clyde Alves (who plays the sailor Ozzie) in his dressing room the other day. We talked about how honored we are to share the stage on a daily basis with such wonderful people as well as top-notch talent. It truly is a privilege to be part of this cast of On The Town. Tomorrow we will officially open, and I am confident the show will be received with thunderous applause and hopefully favorable reviews.
A handful of our cast is participating in Carols for a Cure this year. Be on the look-out this holiday season!!! Another first for me. Can't wait! Cross your fingers and wish us luck! We give birth to our show tomorrow!
