The barn is staring to get into its summer swing this year. The first day of rehearsal is getting closer and closer. Counting down the days until school ends and the days until rehearsal starts. We are currently in the end of school paradox. That being you show up to school and sit in all your classes and do nothing. The days are pointless, but I mean it happens every year so...

Since the school days are very long and a drag I find time in classes to look over my script. I am currently trying and failing to be off book, but everyone goes through this wonderful struggle and that is what makes theatre so fun. You go through hours and hours of work to put something together to share with other people. You always try to make it perfect, but usually something goes wrong. You say the wrong line, you miss your cue, and my favorite the dreadful failed costume change.

Today we had a meeting for the new Teen apprentice program. This is one of the new and growing parts of the educational programing at Millbrook. We have 2 different age levels of camp, TPAA (Teen Preforming Arts Academy), Millbrook Youth Ensemble, and now this. I am super excited. Helping out around the barn is more fun than you think. A hot and sweaty barn is the perfect place to make memories, friends, and inside jokes. With this program I can help with senior previews, courtyard cabarets, running crew, and the younger camps.

My summer keeps getting busier and I love it. Helping around the barn is a blast, but being in a show is the best. You work hard for about 12 days then you preform a show for 2 to 3 weeks. You make connections with people that you will never forget and constantly miss. If you are in a show with the person or 20 you still make a bond that is unbreakable. Closing a show is always hard and even though we have not even started I am thinking about all the tears that will be shed when the show ends. Last year 2 friends and I left mascara stain on the floor of the boy's dressing room. (May I mention we are all girls) Happily we are all coming back to so I am excited.

I am ready for rehearsals to start and begin my adventure through putting on a production in the courtyard space. The courtyard is the space right when you walk in the barn. Think of it as the lobby. It has a tiny stage in the corner and tables with chairs surrounding it. This is where courtyard cabarets are held. This is a cabaret on Saturday nights during the seasons. After the shows are finished you can stay and watch the performers sing, dance, do skits that they practiced endlessly. (by endlessly I mean 2 minutes) It is always a fun sight. This is where people can sing songs that they would never be able to perform otherwise due to the fact that they do not fit that character sex, height, or even gender.

We have NEVER put a show on down there. It will be an adventure because Matt our director said and I quote " We are playing to three sides of the audience... I am going to hate myself." He also said I will be running around the barn to enter from a different random spot. That will be interesting. I think it will be exciting being this close to the audience because making connections with them will be easier and more memorable. I cannot wait to play the mean girl and go on a journey from " You have something I don't so I will rue you" to " I guess you are ok I can tolerate you and maybe we can be close."

This concludes this week's blog and I have decided that each blog I am going to include story time! This is a segment where I will tell you a story about my experiences and memories. Hope you enjoy!

Story Time!

Last season Izyah, Elly, Katie and I where running the snack bar and Justin (Musical Director) left his computer in the snack bar so we could listen to music. Then we wanted to change the song to a song we did at our schools musical so Izyah clicks the song and the computer goes blank. We all though the computer was broken... The music was still playing the screen was unresponsive. We trying closing it, restarting it, and so on. Then Justin came back and clicked the screen and suddenly it was fixed. Then Justin says in his sarcastic southern Justin accent "I told you not to touch me computer". Then says " What song did you want?" Then clicks the song and walks away.
