Producers of BUG, Tracy Letts's hit psychological thriller directed by Dexter
Bullard (Four Lortel Awards, including Best Play, and 2 Obie Awards), announced
today that the long-running play at the Barrow Street Theatre will close on
Sunday, January 30, 2005. The play's New York premiere opened February 29, 2004
with Shannon Cochran (Drama Desk Nomination for Best Actress), and Michael
Shannon (Lortel Nomination for Best Actor) in the lead roles. BUG currently
stars Kate Buddeke and Jonno Roberts, with fellow cast members Helen Coxe,
Michael Cullen, and Troy West.
"The critical response and audience reaction has
been gratifying. Long commercial runs of dramatic plays Off-Broadway have become
increasingly rare and we were proud to be a part of the 2004 theatrical season",
commented producing partner Amy Danis. "We have been fortunate to work on this
wonderful production, but it is time for us to explore other opportunities that
BUG has in its future," added producer Scott Morfee, referencing the numerous
productions scheduled throughout the country and the world, as well as the start
of filming for the movie adaptation of BUG, directed by William Friedkin (The
French Connection, The Exorcist), slated for 2005.
