Producer Aaron Grant introduces the 2014 AGT SUMMER READING SERIES. Grant describes the series as "a new play incubator where artists can hear their work out loud and discover what works and what doesn't work."

  • The first in the series, BROKEN SNOW, an intellectual thriller by Ben Andron, will be seen on July 15.
  • KILLING STRAWHEAD, a hypothetical historical who-done-it by Gregg Ostrin will be presented on July 30.
  • SISTER HUSBANDS, a "fierce dramedy" by Jon Farber will get its first ever public reading in early August.

The series, cast entirely by Daryl Eisenberg Casting, is meant to foster new works by matching directors and casts with new plays at different stages of the development process.

"I love working on new pieces," says Grant, who just finished working on the critically acclaimed new musical THE ANTHEM. "It's so rewarding to see new plays come to life for the very first time."

Joe Langworth directs BROKEN SNOW in which two strangers are brought together by a mystery that will make them question everything about who they are. This reading continues a longstanding artistic collaboration between Aaron Grant and L.A. based playwright Ben Andron.

The reading of KILLING STRAWHEAD by Gregg Ostrin will be directed by Rachel Klein. Ostrin's new play explores the tenuous relationship between Marilyn Monroe and various members of the Kennedy family.

In Jon Farber's SISTER HUSBANDS, a gay-polygamous family is put to the test when its patriarch dies unexpectedly. How strong are the bonds of the surviving husbands towards their beliefs and convictions when an unexpected guest joins in their grieving?

All readings in the series are open to the public. RSVP by e-mailing SummerReadings@theatrical.ag. Due to limited capacity, there will be no admittance without written confirmation.
