Broadway Sings at the PS 166, the Richard Rodgers School, has become an Upper West Side tradition, inviting musical theater actors and musicians who's credits span Broadway, Off-Broadway, National Tours, London's West End and the most notable National Theaters. The cabaret style show is crafted with New York families and a multi-generational audience in mind, also featuring Q&A with theater industry professionals who call the neighborhood home.
The 118 year old elementary school has nurtured notable citizens in business, government and, as recognized by it's most celebrated alumni, the musical stage. Broadway plays a special role in the micro-Manhattan community, so much so that it is celebrated in an annual concert, appropriately titled, Broadway Sings!
"I am always overwhelmed by the generosity of the musical theater artists who share their time at the end of a busy weekend of performances", shares Marc Lovci, producer and MC of Broadway Sings. "Guest artists, some arriving directly from the stage door of their Broadway theater, truly light up the stage delighting the auditorium full of theater enthusiasts, aspiring young performers, and children who may have yet to experience live theater."
The evening hosts over 14 special guest artists representing over 25 shows, sharing songs and personal stories of life in the theater. This year includes 10 year old Fabi Aguirre who made her Broadway Debut last year as Little Cosette in Les Miserables, and currently playing young Gloria, in "On your Feet!" When asked why she believes theater arts matter in elementary education, she enthusiastically shared, "It is very important because it gives a chance to kids to express their feelings through art and music. It also makes going to school more fun!"
This year's Broadway Sings! Concert will be presented on Sunday, March 6th at 6 PM. Guest Artists Include: Ephie Aardema, Fabi Aguirre, Edward Baker-Duly, Christian Dell'Edera, Brandon Ellis, Aaron C. Finley, Elliott Greer, F. Michael Haynie, Julia Mosby, Erin Leigh Peck, Jamison Stern and Geena Quintos. Special guest musician Gillian Berkowitz and Dana Rowe (The Fix, The Witches of Eastwick) will accompany.
