Broadway Cares / Equity Fights AIDS and Jerry Mitchell are pleased to announce BROADWAY BARES: CLASSIC, the latest edition of their popular "Solo Strips" series to be held Sunday, June 6 (9 & 11 PM) at Splash (50 West 17th Street). BROADWAY BARES: CLASSIC will feature strips inspired by favorite numbers from BROADWAY BARES' 20-year history. Headlining the evening will be BARES creator and executive producer Jerry Mitchell, who will take the stage of Splash, where he first created the event in 1992. Other favorite performers set to strut, strip and show that they "still got it" include: Jennifer Cody (Shrek the Musical), Steve Geary (Contact), Sebastian LaCause (The Rocky Horror Show), Rachelle Rak (Fosse) and more.
This week, BroadwayWorld.com will be catching up with catching up with some of the dancers baring it all for BC/EFA with a series of profiles that will hopefully give you a glimpse of the person behind the g-string. Next to "step up to the pole" to be profiled is Broadway Bares classic Steve Geary who gave us a little more conversation (he's saving the action for Sunday)
Name:
Steve Geary
Most Recent Project:
Andy in Logo TV Favorite Adam & Steve
Zodiac Sign:
Capricorn, which is half goat, half fish. Go figure. One astrologer says one of Capricorn's weakness keywords is "inhibited." Are we really buying this zodiac thing? By the way, my Birthday is January 8, same as David Bowie and, oh yeah, Elvis!
First Appearance in Bares:
Barest Show on Earth 1996. The roustabout number (We got to play with really long ropes)
What is your most scandalous and/or favorite Broadway Bares memory?
Doing the full monty at the end of the number in Burlesque is Back and nearly running down Marissa Jaret Winokur as I exited.
Which Strip will you be performing / re-imagining at Splash on June 6?
Ladies and gentlemen, Elvis has re-entered the building. I will be bringing back A Little Less Conversation. Think white fringe sleeves please.
How is performing at Broadway Bares different than performing in a legit theatre piece?
It definitely has an edgier feel. We don't get a lot of rehearsal, but somehow we put it all together to make an exciting show. Oh yeah, we're taking our clothes off too. I guess we're literally flying by the seat of our pants.
What's it like to perform for the Broadway Bares audience?
I feel an overwhelming sense of community at Broadway Bares. I can't help but remember that we are all there to celebrate life and come together to do some good for people in need.
What notes would you give to a Broadway performer stripping for the first time?
Just remember, everybody has one, kid.
What Broadway show tune best describes you?
"I Like Everybody" from The Most Happy Fella.
What makes something classic?
A classic stands the test of time because it has an underlying quality of truth that speaks to generation after generation.
