BRENDA, a supernatural road-trip play written by EST Youngblood member and Yale graduate Cory Finley, will receive its world premiere in the 2013 New York International Fringe Festival. Performances begin August 13 at the Robert Moss Theater at 440 Studios.
Wallace is 25 and feeling a little stuck in life. He's also gradually transforming into his own deceased mother. BRENDA follows Wallace and two friends on an unhinged, melancholy road- trip through a surreal Middle America. Ashley Rodbro directs the production.
The cast of BRENDA includes Sam Bolen (It's a Bird...It's a Plane...It's Superman! and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes at City Center Encores!), Bill Coyne (Off-Broadway: Lil' Abner and Fade Out/Fade In at Theatre Row), Emily Kron (The Europeans at Atlantic Theater; Red Light Winter at Primary Stages), Deidre Madigan (Broadway: Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf, After the Night and the Music; Off-Broadway: Major Crimes), and Keith Herron (TV: Boardwalk Empire, Onion News Network).
Finley's work has been produced and developed at Ars Nova, Ensemble Studio Theater, Theater for the New City (with Less Than Rent), Prospect Theater Company, the Flea and the Brick. He is a member of Youngblood at Ensemble Studio Theater and a graduate of Yale University, and his work as a journalist has been featured in the Arizona Republic and New Haven Advocate.
Rodbro is a director, producer, and stage manager. She conceived and directed an original multimedia variety hour called Beyond the iChatter at Ars Nova and developed I'm From Outer Space and Cold Turkey, both as a part of Ars Nova's ANT FEST. She directed and produced Scarlett Fever at FringeNYC. She has also created demos with musical theatre writers Joe Iconis and Jim Yates and played in the band of the Joe Iconis Christmas Spectacular. Equity stage management credits include Shida, Miranda Sings!, Bloodsong of Love, The Wii Plays and Missed Connections for Ars Nova; Seven Minutes in Heaven for Colt Coeur; Jurassic Parq: The Broadway Musical and The Three Times She Knocked at FringeNYC; and Next Thing You Know for CAP 21.
