Variety reports that Ryan Murphy has confirmed the news that FOX's musical drama Glee will end following next year's sixth season.

The Glee co-creator revealed the news last night, Wednesday, October 16th at a Paley Center event honoring the FX Network. He also shared that the tragic death of series star Cory Monteith in July has forced him to re-think his original vision for how the show will conclude its run.

Explained Murphy, "The final year of the show, which will be next year, was designed around Rachel and Cory/Finn's story. I always knew that, I always knew how it would end. I knew what the last shot was, he was in it. I knew what the last line was, she said it to him. So when a tragedy like that happens you sort of have to pause and figure out what you want to do, so we're figuring that out now."

Last week, the cast of Glee bid farewell to Monteith, who died from an accidental drug overdose in his Vancouver hotel room. In the highly emotional episode titled 'The Quarterback' cast members took turns paying tribute to their fallen co-star through musical performances. The episode delivered its best ratings of the season thus far.
