BRADY BUNCH & Broadway Star Ann B. Davis Dies at 88

USA Today reports that Ann B. Davis, best known for her portrayal of Alice Nelson in The Brady Bunch, passed away after a fall at the age of 88. A close friend of Davis confirmed the news that the actress had slipped and hit her head, which caused severe trauma. She passed away in a San Antonio hospital.

Davis achieved prominence for her role in The Bob Cummings Show (1955-59) for which she twice won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.

For 5 seasons, Davis played Alice Nelson on ABC's THE BRADY BUNCH, and became one of the most iconic TV characters. After the series ended in 1974, she continued to appear in specials, made-for-TV movies, and make cameos.

In 1960 she made her Broadway debut replacing Carol Burnett as the star of "Once Upon a Mattress." She took over the role of 'The Mother' in Broadway's 1992 production of Crazy for You.

in her later years she was the celebrity spokeswoman in several Shake 'n Bake commercials, and later appeared in several disposable mop commercials for Swiffer. She also appeared in a number of Brady Bunch reunion projects, most recently TV Land's The Brady Bunch 35th Anniversary Reunion Special: Still Brady After All These Years. In 2007, The Brady Bunch was awarded the TV Land Pop Culture Award on the 5th annual TV Land Awards. Davis and other cast members accepted the award, with Davis receiving a standing ovation.
