Dixon Place will present a presentation of John Budge's new botany-centric play, BOTTOM OF THE SCRUM on Friday May 6th at 7:30pm.

BOTTOM OF THE SCRUM is a dark comedy about a gardener, invited to be part of the house staff for a mansion. While inside, he gets more than he bargained for while dealing with other members of the staff.

"If there's one message I want to convey through this play, it's optimism," remarked playwright John Budge. "That no matter what position we may find ourselves in at our jobs or in society, we have more power and more potential than it may seem."

"To me the play is a microcosm of the role power, status and labor play in the world at large," explained actor Adam Davenport. "But craftily done through the world of gardeners."

Directed by Charles Quittner, the astroturfed BOTTOM OF THE SCRUM will take over Dixon Place's mainstage featuring Theo Maltz, Modesto Flako Jimenez, Jacob Brandt*, Lloyd Mulvey*, Vasile Flutur, Lawryn LaCroix, and Adam Davenport. Sound design by Mateus Falci and production managed by Rebecca Nell Robertson.

John Budge received his BFA in Acting from the University of Montana and while there, co-founded the Buttenik Ensemble, a theater dedicated to creating and performing original works. His plays have been featured at The Brick, JACK and The Bushwick Starr Reading Series. In recent years, John created Budge Films for his ideas that were better suited for the screen than the stage (www.budgefilms.com). He received his MFA in Playwriting from Brooklyn College in 2015.

Charles Quittner's work has played to packed houses, studios, rooftops, backyards, and an occult bookstore. He has produced several shows for his myth-focused company, Envelope Ensemble, The Tank, Theatre Plastique, and various independent productions and readings. He has assisted on shows at Soho Rep, Abrons Art Center, The Bushwick Starr, HERE Arts, Beth Morrison Projects, Theatre for a New Audience, Public Works and Primary Stages. He has a BA in Theatre Studies from Marymount Manhattan College.

Tickets are $12 for students and seniors, $15 in advance, and $18 at the door. Tickets are also available online at http://dixonplace.org/performances/bottom-of-the-scrum/.
