BMCC Tribeca Performing Arts Center, the longest operating performance venue in lower Manhattan, proudly presents The Velveteen Rabbit, performing on Saturday, April 13 at 1:30PM. The Velveteen Rabbit is a part of BMCC Tribeca Performing Arts Center's Family Theater Season, featuring plays, musicals, puppetry, concerts and dance for all ages.
"When a child loves you for a long, long time...then you become Real." So says the Horse to the Velveteen Rabbit in Margery Williams' famous and much-loved literary classic. A plush rabbit, given as a gift to a young boy, yearns for the day the boy will choose him as his special playmate, so that he can become real. This innovative production combines the theatrical magic and signature style of Enchantment Theatre with the musical magic of Tony, Emmy and Grammy Award-Winning Composer/Arranger Don Sebesky. With an original musical score, life-sized puppets, masks and magic, Enchantment Theatre Company brings to life this charming tale of love and devotion, creating an unforgettable theatrical experience for the whole family. Recommended for ages 5-9.
While the story of The Velveteen Rabbit is familiar to many, the music is new. Inspired by a great appreciation for this classic bedtime story that he and his wife read to their daughters, Don Sebesky wrote and recorded songs for The Velveteen Rabbit. A work in progress for years, he collaborated with lyricist Gloria Nissenson (Parents Choice Award winner) and his wife Janina Serden, a singer and songwriter, and produced The Velveteen Rabbit CD in 2007. Sebesky's music underscores Enchantment Theatre Company's production. In addition, The Velveteen Rabbit was nominated for the 2008 Grammy Award for Best Musical Album for Children!
