To kickoff the first week of performances of BLOODY BLOODY ANDREW JACKSON and fittingly, the coming election season, producers of the show announce a partnership with ROCK THE VOTE organization in hopes to reach out and remind people to register to vote, especially as the midterm elections approach. As part of this partnership, on Friday, September 24th, volunteers from ROCK THE VOTE will be at the theatre at the beginning and at the end of the show with voter registration sign up sheets. There will be additional show days as well when volunteers will be there.

"Theater and democracy were invented together 2,500 years ago in the same city- they belong together like Rock and Roll," said Oskar Eustis, Artistic Director of The Pubic Theater.

"It's exciting to be part of one of the hottest new shows in New York that's sparking interest in the elections. We hope people will take advantage of the opportunity to register and make their voices heard on a political stage," said Heather Smith, President of ROCK THE VOTE.

ROCK THE VOTE engages young people in our democracy and builds their political power by registering, educating and turning them out to vote, by forcing the candidates to campaign to them, and by making politicians pay attention to youth and the issues they care about once in office. For 20 years, they have used music, popular culture, new technologies and old-fashioned grassroots organizing to engage and mobilize young people to participate in every election. By providing them with the information and tools they need since 1990, Rock the Vote has registered more than 5 million young people, including more than 2.5 million in the historic 2008 election. In 2010, Rock the Vote seeks to register 200,000 young voters as part of the largest midterm elections outreach strategy in our organization's history. This spring's biggest downtown hit was undoubtedly BLOODY BLOODY ANDREW JACKSON. The New York Times and Rolling Stone called it "the season's best musical" and audiences flocked to The Public Theater-where iconic shows like A Chorus Line and Hair started out-to see what the daring young creative team Alex Timbers (writer/director) and Michael Friedman (composer/lyricist) had cooked up. Now, by populist demand, their bloody brilliant show is packing up its tight, tight jeans and heading to Broadway!

In BLOODY BLOODY ANDREW JACKSON, rising star Benjamin Walker reprises his role as America's first political maverick. A.J. kicked British butt, shafted the Indians and smacked down the Spaniards all in the name of these United States-who cares if he didn't have permission? An exhilarating and white-knuckled look at one of our nation's founding rock stars, BLOODY BLOODY ANDREW JACKSON recreates and reinvents the life of "Old Hickory," from his humble beginnings on the Tennessee frontier to his days as our seventh Commander-in-Chief. It also asks the question, is wanting to have a beer with someone reason enough to elect him? What if he's really, really hot?

Following a sold-out run at Public LAB in 2009, BLOODY BLOODY ANDREW JACKSON returned to The Public for a full main stage production and opened to acclaimed reviews on April 6. It received an Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Off-Broadway Musical, a Drama Desk Award for Best Book of a Musical and a Broadway.com Audience Award for Favorite Off-Broadway Musical. When the show closed on June 27 after three extensions, BLOODY BLOODY ANDREW JACKSON was the second highest grossing show in The Public Theater's downtown history.

A complete original cast album from Sh-K-Boom/Ghostlight Records, produced by Kurt Deutsch and Dean Sharenow, will be released September 21st. The album will include hits like "Populism, Yea, Yea," "Rock Star," "I'm Not That Guy," and "The Hunters of Kentucky."
